A few of our recipes call for cutting grape tomatoes into halves. Recipes such as our delicious Vegetable Omelet and Whole Grain Spaghetti include 30+ grape tomatoes cut in half. (It is well worth the effort, I promise) For some people, such as my father-in-law and husband, it’s not a problem! They say its therapeutic. As for me, it’s time that I could have used to make myself a second cup of coffee. Here is a life-hack that I have been using quite frequently! I really find it useful because I can cut multiple little grape or cherry tomatoes at one time. This was so appealing to me because my son loves cherry tomatoes (especially when I drizzle some olive oil on top with a pinch of salt). I literally make this for him with one slicing motion. It takes me less than 1 minute to make him a favorite side to his meal. How great is that? Oh! And wait! You can also use this technique with grapes and olives! AMAZING!
Here’s a step by step guide on how I do this:
All you need is a serrated knife and two plastic lids! I could have (and probably should have) used a larger knife, but I like the feel of this knife. It just one of those things..
Place amount of grape tomatoes onto lid that will fit. Add second lid, equivalent in size, on top.
Place gentle pressure on top lid to keep the tomatoes from sliding.
While, pressing on top lid, use knife to slice through the tomatoes.
There you have it!
